Set-back of a single ear in a child
This information assumes that your child has not already undergone surgery at another centre which has not met expectation.
Mr Gault normally undertakes set-back surgery (pinnaplasty) from the age of 5, but he may consider operating earlier if the child is already being teased or needs to wear a behind-the-ear hearing aid which will not stay put.
His fee for the surgery is £2395 including one follow-up. He currently offers the surgery under local anaesthetic (LA) only, for which the anaesthetic fee is £375. Surgery under 16 years of age can be undertaken only at The Cadogan Clinic and as an out-patient. Surgery between 16 and 18 years can be undertaken at the Weymouth Street Hospital, but the fees are much higher as they require a day case stay. Your hospital fee payment is made direct to the hospital. We have no sway over hospital fees, but the current approximate fees at the Cadogan Clinic are £1550 for LA out-patient procedure.
Hospital fees do not include painkillers to take home, but you would be much better advised to buy these over-the-counter because Paracetamol from the hospital is extremely expensive. Mr Gault prefers to leave an around-head bandage on for one week, after which sutures are ready for removal. A headband should be worn at night for about 6 weeks post-operatively to prevent the ears being pushed forwards by the pillow.
For an LA, you add together the surgical, anaesthetic and hospital fees, for example: £2395 + £375 + £1550 approximately.
