Q: You performed corrective surgery on my earlobes - I am truly grateful for the amazing job you did. I now want to have my ears pierced. I have seen a trusted therapist who would like your opinion on piercing through the scar.
A: It is always best to re- pierce alongside the scar, but if piercing directly through the scar cannot be avoided, then it should be fine. Please be aware that chronic allergy to earring posts is one of the major reasons for elongation of slits, and it is always best to take advice about this if you are in any doubt. A jeweller who is also an expert metallurgist, such as Cassandra Goad, might be helpful in this regard.
