Macrotia surgery costs and options - both ears
Mr Gault is able to reduce the ears at the upper poles, or at the lobes or both. His consultation fee is £225, payable on booking.
His fee for upper pole ear reduction surgery is £3995 including one follow-up. If you have a general anaesthetic or intravenous (IV) sedation, then there is an additional fee of £425 for the anaesthetist. If you have a local anaesthetic (LA), then there is an additional fee of £350. The hospital’s fee depends on which one you choose, but in every case a local anaesthetic procedure is cheaper than a general anaesthetic one, or one with IV sedation, and an out-patient procedure (Walk-in, walk-out (WIWO)) is cheaper than a day case (DC) stay. You would need to stay in hospital as a day case if you chose to have a general anaesthetic (GA)or IV sedation but it would be unusual to require a night’s stay in hospital.
The cheapest hospital option currently is a walk-in, walk-out procedure at the Clementine Churchill Hospital (hospital fee (£722 including COVID test).
For a GA, you add together the surgical, anaesthetic and hospital fees, for example: £3995 + £425 + £1936 approximately is the cheapest currently.
For an LA, you add together the surgical, anaesthetic and hospital fees, for example: £3995 + £350 + £722 (including COVID test) is the cheapest currently.
Mr Gault’s fee for ear and ear lobe reduction surgery (ie upper and lower pole) is £4995 including one follow-up. If you have a general anaesthetic or IV sedation, then there is an additional fee of £545 for the anaesthetist. If you have a local anaesthetic, then there is an additional fee of £450.
The cheapest options currently are a walk-in, walk-out procedure at the Clementine Churchill Hospital (hospital fee (£722 including COVID test). The Wellington’s fee for a GA DC is £1936 approximately.

Ear lobe reduction surgery, which takes about one hour, is normally performed under local anaesthetic as a walk-in, walk-out case. After surgery the lobes are covered with some flesh-coloured tape. Sutures are removed at approximately seven days, at which point the scars will look slightly red. Treatment with Dermatix settles the redness more quickly. There are no health implications or risks to hearing.
Mr Gault’s fee for reduction of both ear lobes is £1695 including one follow-up appointment. There is an additional £250 fee for the local anaesthetic. The cheapest hospital at which to have the surgery is the Clementine Churchill (hospital fee £565 including COVID Test approximately). Although unusual, you could also have the surgery under general anaesthetic, in which case there is an additional anaesthetic fee of £295, and the hospital fee would rise to £1936 approximately
For an LA, you add together the surgical and hospital fees, for example: £1695 + £250 + £565 is the cheapest.
Hospital fees do not include painkillers to take home, but you would be much better advised to buy these over-the-counter because Paracetamol from the hospital is extremely expensive.
Clinic schedules are as follows: the Clementine Churchill Hospitals (Tuesday lunchtimes 12-2 pm), the Platinum Medical Centre, Wellington Hospital (Wednesday mornings 8 am-1 pm, adults and children 3-18 only), and The Portland Hospital (Wednesday afternoons 2-5 pm). The location of these hospitals can be found on the contact page of Mr Gault’s websites – www.davidgault.co.uk and www.earreconstruction.co.uk. The location of your consultation appointment does not limit your choice of hospital for the procedure itself.
Mr Gault is also available on video by Skype at a cost of £275 for a 20 minute consultation. The final assessment would still need to be made face to face, but it would at least enable Mr Gault to advise you of the various options so that a surgery could be pencilled if appropriate. A fee of £100 - £225 is payable for the subsequent consultation.
Your photos and a good video Skype connection would be useful when taking up such a consultation. We have a new on-line booking system available, or please phone to arrange an appointment so that you have the choice of what is currently available.
